A summer job is often a teen's first introduction to the workforce, and the experience can have a profound positive impact on a young person's path in life. Youth in our summer job program work no more than 20 hours per week and attend development workshops once a week. Teens in our program develop a work history, gain a reference for their resume and college applications, and develop their leadership and work skills.
$1,250 supports the pre-employment workshops, job site development, case management, weekly workshops, and wages for one young person's summer job. In 2010, YEP's summer programs served 1,159 Oakland teens and young adults.
